But when I shut
down the system something strange happens: an area on
the monitor that appears to be about 640X480 pixels in
size is filled with narrow colored vertical lines. The
rest of the screen is black. When the hard drive stops
the screen goes black and I can shut down my computer.
It starts up again normally, KDE loads and everything
looks fine, but during shutdown I always get a screen
that is partially filled with those colored lines.

I also get this problem. Are you running sid (unstable)?

Does your XF86 detect the memory of your Rage Mobility correctly?

I had a similar problem with a Rage Mobility LY6 (ThinkPad X22)
at woody. If it's detecting a wrong memory size you can put it in XF86config-4.

In the sid packages the misbehavior is gone.

I have a compaq armada, it has'nt got a ati rage mobility chip. I think it's a Ati rage LT.
I dont know if X detects memmory properly.. where can i see this?

I have sid but it still seems to have this problem.
