Thank you for the response.

Very strange, because my exprience has been completely different: no
problem loading yenta_socket.o (I'm using it right now with a
different NIC).  I have been compiling with gcc-3.3, but at least the
kernel seems to be working, and the Tulip module seems to be at least
trying to load...

I remain confused.
