IEEE 1284: EPP vs ECP
Hello,
I'm installing a Raven/Jtag device off of a parallel port on a
debian/windoz laptop.
Obviously the vendor want people to use Windoz, but, I strongly prefer
Debian.
In the Literature from the vendor, they state:
"The Raven is IEEE 1284 compatible. It does not support daisy chaining.
The best mode of communication
is EPP; ECP mode is not recommended. EPP mode can typically be set in
the CMOS BIOS
settings of the host computer."
Now my understanding is that the BIOS is read at boot time, but, then
Linux does it's own thing.
How do I ensure/measure/test that the parallel port is set for EPP, at
boot time, and after the Linux
kernel does it's thing with the low level driver settings for the
parallel port?
Will setting the portable for EPP mess up my printer that I attach to
the parallel port?
HP4000.
Ideas, experiences or further reading, including where in the sources
are to look at what's happening
with various low level device drivers, is most welcome.
James
