You can also switch on truetype fonts in
/usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref/unix.js by editing the file in the
downloaded build. I've done this with both Mozilla and a Firebird
nightly. When I compared the font display side by side, the mozilla.org
download did not have crisp and clear fonts to the level that the XFT
enabled Mozilla debian package has had. Here are a few references to

Also note that when you make the changes that the adjusted font displays
show up somewhat differently in the font preferences in Mozilla.
