I own an Apple Powerbook (the so called Pismo Edition, with an 400 MHz
G3, Firewire and a DVD drive).  I'm running the actual testing

I tired to compile my own kernel, but I wasn't able to get sound
working.  I didn't try playing DVDs.

Do you use a selfmade kernel?  Can you send my your kernel config?

I'm still stuck on MacOS-9.2, but I neither have any problems in
playing DVDs (and my processor is only running at 400 MHz, which is
nearly the half of yours ;-).
