detecting cdrom on a toshiba tecra 510CDT

hi,
i'm trying to put debian in a toshiba tecra 510cdt (p133 64mb-ram).

i'm installing with floppies. rescue.bin, root.bin and drivers*.bin

The problem is when i "Install the Base System" it can't mount debian-cd1

i edited /etc/fstab and added
/dev/hdc /cdrom iso9669 ro,user,noauto 0 0

but when i mount /cdrom i get this error: mounting /dev/hdc on /cdrom failed: No medium found.

there is also a link /dev/cdrom to /dev/hdc (not made by me)

from toshibas site, the cdrom is : Toshiba XM-1502b (ATAPI)

Does this drive need a special parameter on boot??

How can i access the cd-rom??

Thanks for the help..

Joel

ps. i know i could install the base system with floppies... but they are 20+ ....
