No idea. Try the swsusp list at swsusp@lister.fornax.hu. I don't use swsusp -
still trying to get a fully functioning ACPI. Usually, though I would have
expected any failure to be in syslog.

iirc, Pavel (swsusp developer) has stated that S3 is never going to work on
2.4.x and has stopped even looking at it. On 2.5 kernels S3 is supposed to
function like S4 but save to memory rather than disk, so uses most of the same
code.
