Re: Inspiron 5000 text-console freezing, somehow linked to X ?

Hello again.

To add from the XF86-Log:
"Cannot shadow an accelerated framebuffer"
and later "Option UseFBDev not used".
It's a 8 MB ATI Rage, and in the XF86Config
i turned FBDev on and DPMS off.
No errors else.

ok.

You're right, it's enabled:
CONFIG-X86_GOOD=y
CONFIG-X86_IO=y
CONFIG-X86_LOCAL=y

I'm going to compile a new kernel soonest on friday....

Did know nothing about APIC. Short look into google was'n really
enlighting....what is APIC at all ? Why does it call the BIOS after a few
minutes X up ? D i need it for something ?
Shall i try a BIOS-update ( A07 might be quite out of date ) ?

Could APIC be enabled by default in 2.4.18, and also in 2.2.20 idepci ?
I wondered if I turned on something I don't understand at all in the config.
But then, it was very early in the morning...
I heard chips work better in the dark ;-)

I will check things, and do some reading.

Thanks.
