It looks like XFree86 3.3.6, which is what's in Debian Potato, doesn't
support Radeon, so you'll either need to grab the packages from Woody or
Sid, upgrade your entire system to Woody or Sid, or compile XFree86
yourself.

(And how are you getting kernels from xfree86.org? AFAIK, xfree86.org
doesn't host the kernel sources.)

If you want to run grub, you really need to read the documentation.
/usr/share/doc/grub/README.Debian has a nice summary of how to get
things to work.

Try typing in the following commands at the grub prompt:

root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-<kernel version> root=/dev/hda2
boot

grub has tab completion, so if you don't know the kernel version for the
second line, just type up to "vmlinuz-" and hit TAB, and it'll give you
a list of options.

You could also try just "/vmlinuz" instead of "/boot/vmlinuz-<version>",
but I don't know if grub groks symlinks.
