I use the framebuffer, which gives a nice console, but no acceleration :<

Booting with `vga=792'  option sets a 1024x768@32bits screen  ; for what
is worth, my X3.3.6 config file is at http://lhh.free.fr/tosh/XF86Config

You can also try XFree 4.2.0  (not in potato) for better support, but as
far  as I  can  tell, Trident  don't  give useful  specifications for  X
acceleration.
