Re: Install from USB floppy?

Here's how I installed Debian on my Vaio (Z505S, August 1999) with USB floppy:

  1. Obtained the RedHat single-floppy "network install" disk, in my
     case from 6.0.
  2. Partitioned the disk, leaving the hibernate partition alone, and
installed into what would become the swap partition under Debian.
  3. Booted RedHat and downloaded drivers.tgz and base.tgz into the
     RedHat partition.
  4. Installed Debian Slink from the single install floppy and .tgzs in
     the RedHat partition.
  5. Booted Debian for the second stage install.
  6. Upgraded to potato, which was unstable then.
  7. Used mkswap to turn the RedHat partition into swap.

Voila, Debian installed from USB using only one floppy at a time and no CD-ROM!
