Hmm - I think I saw just about every weirdness possible w. 3.3.6, but once
I started using the fb console, things worked out fine: I'm told that w.
4.0.2 you don't need the fb console any more, but fwiw, here's my current
setup:
A20p, Rage Mobility M3 chipset:
VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility M3 AGP 2x (rev 02)
Kernel 2.4.3-ac14, vesa fb console [NB - do NOT compile in any chipset
specific fb stuff - just the generic
vesa fb console]
agpgart and r128-dri support compiled in as modules
[woohoo! 3D acceleration :)]
XFree86 4.0.2-13 [from woody]
Lilo config section:
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.3-ac14
vga=834
append="video=vesa:redraw,mtrr"
label=l-243-ac14
read-only
Oh yes, and in the BIOS I have HV expansion turned on, iirc.
The only quibble I have is that gdm has an annoying tendency not to
restart properly - I get a message in its log file about
AUDIT: Thu May 10 00:50:11 2001: 6283 X: client 2 rejected from local host
when I log out of my X session, and X comes back up, but gdm does not.
