mouse hangs under X on Savage/MX

I installed Debian/testing on my Asus L8400K notebook with a S3 savage MX
graphics chip. I am using Xfree 4.0.2 and the latest savage driver module
1.1.15 from http://www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html .

Very often, the mouse pointer just freezes while moving.
Unfreezing is possible by opening a new window (via keyboard shortcut),
but it is very anoying and makes working under X impossible.

I tried "NoAccel", "SWCursor", "ShadowStatus" options with no success.

I tried also two flavors of the SVGA server for XFree 3.3.6,
namely the one from S3's drivers site and the one from
http://www.probo.com/timr/savagemx.html .
In both cases I experience the same freezes.

I wonder if this is a known issue and has somebody a suggestion how
to get rid of this?

thanks,
Radu
