Can VC1 ping any hosts on the internet?  (Either by IP address or
hostname.)  You say that VC2 can ping hosts, so it's DNS configuration is
fine.  How about the DNS configuration on VC1?

I was wondering whether the Internet-connected host had IP forwarding
enabled?  If VC2 is being used as VC1's gateway, then you will need to
have IP forwarding (masquerading, etc) enabled.

I'll agree with that point.  FTP is much more robust when it comes to
moving files around.
