Small fonts: try grdb

Some time ago, the problem was discussed that most X11 applications have too
big fonts for small laptop displays, and how to change that.

In the meantime, I noticed grdb (http://bucket.pp.ualr.edu/~bit/grdb.html):

  "grdb provides a simple way to set the X resources of legacy
  applications consistenly with your chosen gtk theme. You must run
  grdb at startup, each time you change themes, and each time you add
  new app-defaults config files."

In fact, if I have a GTK theme with a small font (e.g. the light theme or
TrueBe) and then run grdb, applications like Netscape, xemacs, or Xaw and Tk
applications have their menu fonts and colours set to the same settings.

At least this seems to be a good starting point to size down applications.
