RE: laptop screen size problem

thanks for your help on this. I've installed X 3.3.6 and configured it with
your XF86Config file. I've also tried setting horizsync to 30-70 & 30-40.

I can get X to run in the small res (640x480) @ 8 bpp (by typing
startx -- -bpp 8) but on any other bpp (inc the default of 16), it won't
run. THe last couple of error messages are:

SVGA: 16bpp not supported for this chipset

** A configured device found, but display modes could not be resolved. ***

Fatal server error:
no screens found

any ideas? tks

Andrew

Hi,
Have a look at the attached XF86Config. Read the comments, and try
it once you got XF86 3.3.6 (no proper Savage support before). Be very
careful with HorizSync and VertRefresh in your Monitor section.

If the first try gives you a garbled screen (or blinking, or
such), first of all try reducing HorizSync to reasonable settings
(30-40). Next, you may try to remove ModeLines which you know not to work
with your board.

Also, I did not put your "1024x768i" mode in the modes list which is
to be used by the server. Add it if the standard "1024x768" values do
not work.

Best regards,
raph
