Laptop installation (was Re: Hi)

Sure.  It is fairly easy.  Make sure you read the installation documentation and
look through the mailing list archives so you don't get too many flames from
people.
Are you installing via CD or over the net.  I installed the 2.1r4 release via
CDs.  I then pointed my /etc/apt/sources.list file at my potato mirror in
Australia and did an "apt-get update" followed by an "apt-get dist-upgrade" to
upgrade to 2.2 (aka potato).  I had to upgrade the kernel manually by doing
"apt-get install kernel-image-2.2.14".  I regularly do an "apt-get update" and
"apt-get upgrade" to get the latest packages and fixes.
