Well, consider this my first reply to this list.
I'm currently using a PCG-505TR which is one of the earlier models of the superslim design. I
couldn't be happier. Everything works, and works well. I had no problems with sound / pcmcia
/ modem or X. It seems sony made a perfectly compatible laptop and decided they couldn't keep
it that way.
If there were a VAIO project I'd definately would want to contribute to it.
I did seem to have problems with the base 2.1 boot floppy that sporadically rebooted the
system. And since I didn't spring for the CD I installed via NFS. After installing the 2.2
series kernels I had 0 problems.... except for forgetting to recompile the pcmcia modules when
I compiled my kernel with kpkg
