The 3.3.6 X servers support Neomagic chips in XF86_SVGA, I believe.
Check the release notes for your specific model, of course, to be on the
safe side.

As to why to switch, well, to take advantage of bug fixes and
performance improvements in the new version. The only compelling feature
I know off the top of my head is the DGA support that VMware uses, but
there may be more. :)

OTOH, if it works, don't fix it is often good advice too....
