Duvida em traducao dos boot-floppies

Estou com uma duvida na traducao de um termo que aparece no documento
preparing.sgml. Eis o trecho em questao:

" This should be kept in mind when pre-partitioning; you should create a
Linux placeholder partition to come <em>before</em> the other bootable
partitions on the disk.  You can delete the placeholder with the Linux
partition tools later during the actual install, and replace it with Linux
partitions. "

A duvida esta no termo "placeholder". Como devo traduzi-lo nesse contexto?
