Thanks for the offer to help.
There is not really a separate manual for powerpc. Most of the manual is
general, but there are sections that are architecture specific.

You should probably start by subscribing to and introducing yourself on
debian-l10n-italian@lists.debian.org. Also try to contact the previous
translators (Stefano Canepa <sc@linux.it>).
Maybe people on that list will be able to review translations. Also
usefull for coordination if several people work on the translation.

Below are some instructions for working on the translation.

Cheers,
FJP

The current version of the manual itself can be found on [1].
Start by reading the document [2] for background information.
Next, get an _anonymous_ SVN checkout of the manual [3].
Note: a full checkout for d-i is ~215MB. If you'd like to just checkout
the manual, you can use [4] instead.

Look for files in './installer/doc/manual/...'.
The en directory contains the original (English) version of the manual.
The it directory contains the current Italian translation.

If you run the command './scripts/doc-check it' from the manual directory,
you will see a lot of (translated) documents that are out of date (I have
already updated untranslated documents). Please start by updating these.
There are a number of documents that have been added or split since the
last update for Italian. If you like, I can help with those.

The translation will be build automatically 4 times a week and a report
and log of the builds will be send to the list mentioned earlier.

To get commit access for d-i, you will need to first apply for a 'guest'
account on alioth [5]. Then you can send a mail to the debian-boot
maillist (debian-boot@lists.d.o) asking to be added to the project as a
translator.
However, you can start by sending in corrections to the d-boot list or, if
someone there is willing to commit, the d-l10n-italian list (patches are
preferred). Someone will pick them up and make sure they're included.
