<p>
La publication de la révision 29 par Oracle indique non seulement des mises
à jour de sécurité, mais aussi un changement de licence, retirant ainsi Ã
Debian sa capacité de redistribuer la machine virtuelle Java non libre.
La clause <acronym lang="en" tytle="Operating System Distributor License for Java" >DLJ</acronym>
de la licence Java, qui permettait de distribuer Java, a été retirée. En
conséquence, le paquet sun-java6 ne convient plus à l'archive, et a donc été
retiré, comme cela a été indiqué dans le <a
href="http://bugs.debian.org/646524";>rapport de bogue Debian nº 646524</a>.
Sylvestre Ledru <a href = "http://sylvestre.ledru.info/blog/sylvestre/2011/10/25/removal_of_sun_java6_from_debian"; >suggère</a>
que les installations de sun-java6 soient migrées vers
open-jdk, l'alternative libre, en utilisant la commande suivante :
<code>apt-get --purge remove sun-java6-jre && apt-get install openjdk-7-jre</code>.
Il a aussi été signalé <a href="http://www.carbon-project.org/Removal_of_sun_java6_and_ElsterOnline.html"; >ailleurs</a>
que cette mise à jour puisse ne pas convenir à tous les programmes Java. Une
attention particulière doit donc être portée au test avec OpenJDK des
applications Java préalablement installées.

<toc-add-entry name="sdl">Renaissance de l'équipe Debian d'empaquetage de SDL</toc-add-entry>
<p>
L'<a href="http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianSdlGroup";>équipe d'empaquetage de SDL</a>
s'est <a href="http://ddumont.wordpress.com/2011/11/19/sdl-team-revival/";>reformée</a>
récemment. Dominique Dumont s'est chargé de sa réorganisation, rejoint par
Manuel A. Fernandez. L'équipe est progressivement en train de migrer vers un dépôt Git
pour sa gestion des paquets, afin de faciliter la collaboration. Les responsables
de paquets liés à SDL à l'extérieur de ce dépôt sont invités Ã
rejoindre l'équipe.
Un grand nombre de bogues ont déjà été corrigés et les nouveaux paquets SDL 1.3
et sdl-perl ont été envoyés dans experimental. SDL 1.3 apporte la prise en
charge pour les nouvelles <acronym lang="en" title="Application programming interface">API</acronym>
d'OpenGL, des améliorations au niveau de l'entrée, telles que la prise en
charge des surfaces tactiles multipoints (<q>multitouch</q>), des gestes et des
périphériques à retour de force, une meilleure prise en charge d'Unicode, ainsi
que la prise en charge de fenêtres et affichages multiples.

<p>
Stefano Zacchiroli a envoyé ses <q><a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2011/11/msg00001.html";>brèves du
chef du projet Debian pour octobre 2011</a>.
Il nous rappelle que le <q>processus du nouveau responsable</q> a été rebaptisé
<q> processus du nouveau membre<q/> et que maintenir une liste des
<q>bidouillages faciles</q> est une façon très efficace d'attirer de nouveaux
contributeurs dans une équipe.
Il remarque qu'Ubuntu prévoit d'abandonner leur plate-forme d'évaluation de
paquets (REVU) pour converger vers <tt>mentors.debian.net</tt>. Cela demandera
des changements dans debexpo, ainsi qu'une augmentation des parrainages par les
membres de Debian.
Stefano a approuvé l'utilisation des fonds pour le sprint de l'équipe vidéo de
DebConf qui s'est déroulé récemment, ainsi que pour le remplacement de matériel
pour <tt>lists.debian.org</tt> et <tt>ftp.debian.org</tt>.
Il signale que Fathi Boudra a représenté Debian à la journée de la
liberté logicielle en Algérie.
Stefano a aussi fait le point sur ses activités autour des marques déposées, et
mentionne notamment un point de contact pour les demandes reliées à la marque
déposée Debian, la recherche de conseils juridiques sur la manière dont la loi
sur les marques déposées s'applique aux activité d'empaquetage et le démarrage
d'une discussion sur les relations entre les lignes directrices du logiciel
libre suivant Debian (<q><acronym lang="en" title="Debian Free Software
Guidelines">DFSG</acronym></q>) et les restrictions liées aux marques
déposées.

<p>Lors de la récente <a href="http://wiki.ubuntu.com/UCADay";>journée de
remerciement de la communauté Ubuntu</a> (<q>Ubuntu Community Appreciation
Day</q>), Michael Hall a envoyé à Debian

de remerciement</a>, dont voici un extrait : <q>sans vous, nous n'aurions pas
été capables d'accomplir ce que nous avons accompli. Ubuntu est formidable, car

Christian Perrier <a href="http://lists.debian.org/20111105184310.GD4138@mykerinos.kheops.frmug.org";>relate</a>
sa participation à la <a href="http://wiki.debian.org/DebianIndia/MiniDebConf2011/MangaloreEdition";>mini-DebConf
à Mangalore, dans le sud-ouest de l'Inde</a>. Cette conférence s'est tenue Ã
l'Institut de Technologie Nitte MahaLinga Adyanthaya et a été organisée par Vasudev
Kamath et une équipe d'étudiants en informatique de l'institut avec le soutien
du personnel, comprenant le directeur, Dr. S. Y. Kulakarni.
Christian a ouvert la conférence avec un exposé introduisant Debian et les
différentes façons de contribuer à son internationalisation et à sa
localisation. Ensuite, Jonas Smedegaard fit une présentation des <q>Debian Pure
Blends</q>, en se concentrant sur la façon dont les distributions dérivées
travaillent à partir de Debian, et non pas en dehors d'elle. Cela faisait
partie de son <a href="http://dr.jones.dk/blog/debianasia2011/";>voyage</a> pour
promouvoir Debian et les Debian Pure Blends en Asie.
Les exposés étaient suivis par une deuxième journée avec des sessions portant
sur la localisation, l'empaquetage, l'utilisation de clefs OpenPGP et la
contribution à Debian.
L'événement a été annoncé dans <q>The Hindul</q>, l'un des journaux les plus lus
d'Inde. Des événements comme celui-ci sont vitaux pour les communautés locales.
La participation de contributeurs <q>internationaux</q> à ces événements
augmente leur visibilité, et est particulièrement appréciée par la communauté
locale.

other activities, the Debian Publicity team is looking for new contributors.
Did you ever want to help Debian, but every piece software you are interested
in is already packaged? You don't consider yourself a <q>technical person</q>? You
have basic skills in written English? Perfect! Have you considered
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2011/11/msg00055.html";>joining</a>
the Publicity Team? If you are a Debian member, the Press team is also looking
for new contributors.

The release of Java update 29 from Oracle marks not only security updates,
but a change to the licensing, removing Debian's ability to distribute the
non-free JVM. The clause in the Java license under which we were able to
distribute Java, the <acronym lang="en" title="Operating System Distributor License for Java" >DLJ</acronym>
has been removed. As a result, the sun-java6 package is no longer suitable
for the archive, and has been removed, as documented on
<a href="http://bugs.debian.org/646524"; >Debian Bug #646524</a>. Sylvestre Ledru
<a href = "http://sylvestre.ledru.info/blog/sylvestre/2011/10/25/removal_of_sun_java6_from_debian"; >suggests</a>
that sun-java6 installs be migrated to openjdk, the open-source alternative using the
following command: <code>apt-get --purge remove sun-java6-jre && apt-get install openjdk-7-jre</code>.
It's also been pointed out <a href="http://www.carbon-project.org/Removal_of_sun_java6_and_ElsterOnline.html"; >elsewhere</a>
that this upgrade path might not be suitable for all Java programs, and special
attention should be paid to re-testing installed Java applications on OpenJDK.

<p>
The <a href="http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianSdlGroup";>SDL packaging
team</a> has recently been seriously <a href="http://ddumont.wordpress.com/2011/11/19/sdl-team-revival/";>revived</a>,
with Dominique Dumont reorganising the team and Manuel A. Fernandez Montecelo
joining the effort. Packaging is progressively moving to Git for easier
collaboration, and developers maintaining SDL-related packages not in the team's
repository have been invited to join, too. A lot of old bugs have already been
fixed and new SDL 1.3 and sdl-perl packages have been uploaded to experimental.
SDL 1.3 brings support for newer OpenGL <acronym lang="en" title="Application
programming interface">APIs</acronym>, input improvements like multi-touch,
gestures and force feedback device support, better Unicode support and support
for multiple windows and displays.

He notes that Ubuntu plan to deprecate their package review platform
(REVU) in favour of converging on <tt>mentors.debian.net</tt>.
This will need some debexpo changes and also
more package sponsorship by Debian members.
Stefano has approved funds for the recent DebConf
video team sprint and also hardware replacements for
<tt>lists.debian.org</tt> and <tt>ftp.debian.org</tt>,
which have now arrived and are in the process of being setup by
<acronym lang="en" title="the Debian System Administrators">DSA</acronym>.
He reported that Fathi Boudra represented
Debian at the Software Freedom Day in Algeria.
Stefano also reported on his trademark-related activities, including a contact
point for inquiries related to the Debian trademark, seeking legal advice
on how trademark law applies to Debian packaging activities and starting a
discussion on the relationships between the <acronym lang="en" title="Debian
Free Software Guidelines">DFSG</acronym> and trademark restrictions.
He is also working on a statement to make explicit the position of the Debian
Project on software patents.
The <acronym lang="en" title="Open Source Initiative">OSI</acronym>
have invited the Debian Project to their upcoming affiliation program.
There is also work in progress to have the Debian Project become a member of
the forums for <acronym lang="en" title="Internet Systems Consortium">ISC</acronym>
software that we distribute.
Stefano also mentioned his continuing work in creating a discussion forum for
companies that have a strategic interest in Debian.

<p>As part of Ubuntu's recent <a href="http://wiki.ubuntu.com/UCADay";>Community
Appreciation Day</a>, Michael Hall sent Debian

of appreciation</a>, stating <q>Without you we wouldn't be able to make the
contributions we do. Ubuntu is great because Debian is great, and we appreciate
all of the work that goes into making it that way.</q> Michael

be joining</a> of Canonical's Community Team, focusing on projects that are
upstream for Ubuntu.</p>
<toc-add-entry name="indiamangalore">India mini-DebConf, Mangalore edition</toc-add-entry>
<p>
Christian Perrier <a href="http://lists.debian.org/20111105184310.GD4138@mykerinos.kheops.frmug.org";>reported</a>
on his participation in the <a href="http://wiki.debian.org/DebianIndia/MiniDebConf2011/MangaloreEdition";>mini-DebConf
in Mangalore, south-west India</a>. The conference was held at Nitte MahaLinga
Adyanthaya Memorial Institute of Technology and organised by Vasudev Kamath and
a team of computer-science students from the college with support from staff,
including the college principal, Dr. S. Y. Kulakarni. Christian gave the opening
talk, introducing Debian, how to contribute and information about Debian
internationalisation and localisation. Later Jonas Smedegaard presented a talk
about Debian Pure Blends, focusing on how distributions derived from Debian can
work inside Debian instead of outside of it. This was part of his
<a href="http://dr.jones.dk/blog/debianasia2011/";>trip</a> promoting Debian and
Debian Pure Blends in Asia. The talks were followed on the second day with
sessions on localisation, packaging, OpenPGP keys and contributing to Debian.
The event was publicised in one of the major newspapers in India, namely <q>The
Hindu</q>. Events such as these are vital to local communities. The participation
of <q>international</q> contributors in these events often brings more attention on
them and is highly appreciated by the local community.

<p>The Debian mirrors team is happy to announce the first mirror in <a

Germany and <a href="http://www.debian.org/events/2011/1204-ubulocjam-debbsp";>Portland</a>,
OR, USA. While the first one concentrated on fixing Release Critical Bugs, the
second one concentrated on creating multiarch patches for different libraries.

Both BSP where quite successful. In Hildesheim <a
href="http://blog.schmehl.info/Debian/events/bsp-hi-2011-3";>60 release critical bugs
where addressed</a> and several improvements to the <a
href="http://blog.ganneff.de/blog/2011/12/04/bsp-hildesheim.html";>archive
software</a> introduced, while in Portland <a
href="http://web.dodds.net/~vorlon/wiki/blog/Making_jam_from_bugs/";>14
multiarch</a> where created! They also noted down how to <a
href="http://www.outflux.net/blog/archives/2011/12/05/ec2-instances-in-support-of-a-bsp/";>prepare some cloud
instances</a> in preparation of Bug Squashing Parties.

<p>The next Bug Squashing parties in Mönchengladbach, Germany (January or
February) and Paris, France (17 to 19 February) are <a

the upcoming <a href="http://www.debian.org/events/2012/0204-fosdem";>FOSDEM 2012</a>, the Free and Open Source Software developers' Europe
Meeting. The FOSDEM takes place in Brussels, Belgium in early February 2012.
Acceptable sessions can be any wide range of things, including talks,
BoF sessions, and round tables. Two cross-distributions devrooms are intended to be
for people from any participating distribution project, and may cover
Debian-specific subjects, or indeed targeted at Debian developers only.

<p>According to the <a href="http://udd.debian.org/bugs.cgi";>Bugs Search
interface of the Ultimate Debian Database</a>, the upcoming release,
Debian 6.0 <q>Squeeze</q>, is currently affected by
1656 release-critical bugs. Ignoring bugs which are easily solved
or on the way to being solved, roughly speaking, about
849 release-critical bugs remain to be solved for the
release to happen.</p>
