Je joins mon fichier index.wml, n'ayant pas encore l'autorisation
d'écriture dans le cvs. Merci de le mettre dans le cvs.
Je voulais traduire d'autres paragraphes, mais j'ai finalement corrigé
beaucoup d' « erreurs de manque de café » (conjugaison, accord, ...)

<p>Nous avons le plaisir de vous présenter le quatorzième numéro des « Nouvelles
du Projet Debian », la lettre d'information de la communauté Debian.<br />

<p><strong>Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 mis à jour</strong></p>
<p>Le projet Debian est heureux d'annoncer la cinquième révision de sa distribution stable.
Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 (nom de code <q>Etch</q>). Cette mise à jour corrige principalement des
problèmes de sécurité de la distribution stable, ainsi que la corrections de quelques sérieux problèmes.
Ceux qui installent régulièrement les mises à jour de security.debian.org n'auront pas besoin de mettre à jour beaucoup
de paquet et la pluspart des mise à jour de security.debian.org sont inclueses dans cette révision.
De nouvelle image de CD et DVD contenant cette révision sont disponible aux endroits habituels.</p>
<p>La mise à jour vers cette révision est habituellement effectuée en configurant le gestionnaire de paquets aptitude (ou apt-get)
(voir la page de manuel source.list(5)) vers un des nombreux miroir FTP ou HTTP de Debian.

<p><strong>Participation à Debian</strong></p>
<p>Après avoir parlé à plusieurs des groupes concernés, Joerg Jaspert
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2008/10/msg00005.html";>a proposé</a> des changements dans la manière
dont est gérée l'adhésion à Debian. La raison de ces changement est de rentre possible aux personnes
qui contribuent à Debian sans pour autant maintenir de paquets (comme les traducteurs ou les rédacteurs des documentations)
de devenir membre du projet. Il a <a href="http://blog.ganneff.de/blog/2008/10/24/developer-status.html";>ajouté</a> plus tard
quelques commentaires à sa proposition. Toutefois en raison de l'ampleur du changement, plusieurs développeurs
proposent <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2008/10/msg00193.html";>d'arrêter ces changements</a> jusqu'à ce qu'ils
aient pris une décision commune, tandis que Peter Palfrader
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2008/10/msg00266.html";>à demandé</a> l'autorisation de continuer d'essayer de résoudre ce problème.</p>
<p>Lars Wirzenius et d'autres personnes voudraient voir l'intégralité
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2008/10/msg00145.html";>du système de membre repensé</a>, et pas seulement le processus
par lequel les membres sont admis. Lars a proposé que le statut de membre soit périodiquement reconduit, tandis que
<q>des personnes devraient être autorisés à rejoindre Debian quand il est largement admis qu'elles sont
d'accord avec les objectifs du projet, qu'elles s'engagent à travailer en accord avec ces objectifs et qu'elles soient dignes de confiance.</q></p>
<p>Martin Krafft <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2008/10/msg00061.html";>démontre</a> que plutôt que d'introduire
plusieurs catégories de membres, Debian doit définir différents privilèges et critères pour devenir membre.
Puisque ces privilèges existent déjà il devrait être plus facile de définir des critères plutôt que de classer les privilèges suivant des catégories.</p>
<p><strong>Succès de la première course aux bugs de Lenny</strong></p>
<p>Pour aider au nettoyage des rapports de bug de la prochaine version (« Release Critical »), particulièrement les plus persistants,
Josselin Mouette <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2008/10/msg00004.html";>a lancé</a>
la première course aux bugs de Lenny (« Bug Sprint »). Dans cette compétition, les développeurs Debian et les personnes interessées
essayent de corriger les bugs de la prochaine version qui leurs sont assignés, dans un laps de temps de cinq jours.
Le gagnant de cette compétition gagnerait des cookies.</p>
<p>Josselin a ajouté plus tard que 27 participants <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2008/10/msg00636.html";>ont participé</a>
à la couse aux bugs et a publié <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2008/11/msg00046.html";>les résultats</a>.
(Il avait déjà envoyé une <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2008/10/msg00875.html";>ébauche plus détaillée auparavant</a>).
En fin de compte, il a été globalement très satisfait des résultats. Stefano Zacchiroli
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2008/10/msg00887.html";>a proposé</a> de répéter cette événement.</p>
<p><strong>Firmware in Lenny and how to deal with DFSG-violating packages</strong></p>
<p>Ben Finney <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2008/10/msg00368.html";>wondered</a> about several release-critical
bugs getting the <tt>lenny-ignore</tt> tag, which specifies that these bugs are not considered release critical for the upcoming
release of Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 <q>Lenny</q>. Release Manager Marc Brockschmidt
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2008/10/msg00369.html";>explained</a> that <q>In all of the bugs I recently tagged,
the DFSG violation is usually a formal problem, something that other
distributions and upstream don't consider a problem at all. While fixing
these issues is and should be a goal of Debian, it's hardly something
that can be done in the last few weeks before releasing. The drawbacks
of delaying the release indefinitely for these bugs are much greater
than releasing with these minor DFSG violations.</q></p>
<p>In the following discussion, Robert Millan <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2008/10/msg00107.html";>proposed</a>
a general resolution on how to deal with packages violating the
<a href="http://www.debian.org/social_contract#guidelines";>Debian Free Software Guidelines</a>. In his proposal, packages having
a bug report open regarding their compliance with the Debian Free Software Guidelines for a certain amount of time
must be moved from the <tt>main</tt> section to the <tt>non-free</tt> section. In his response to Robert's initial
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2008/10/msg00010.html";> proposal</a>, Release Wizard Steve Langasek
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2008/10/msg00128.html";>argued</a> that Debian has been following the road of
incremental improvement. He notes that all bugs reported regarding non-free
firmware for older releases have been dealt with.</p>
<p><strong>State of NEW queue</strong></p>
<p>Aurelien Jarno <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2008/10/msg00071.html";>wondered</a> whether the NEW queue (where
uploaded source packages creating new binary packages are held back awaiting the check and approval of an ftp-master)
is currently being processed. Joerg Jaspert <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2008/10/msg00180.html";>answered</a> that
the NEW queue has indeed not been processed very often recently. He explained further that changes in the software used to
process this queue give precedence to packages that only add new binary components, as distinct from packages that add completely
new code to the archive.</p>
<p><strong>Changes to archive.debian.org</strong></p>
<p>Joerg Jaspert <a href="http://blog.ganneff.de/blog/2008/10/26/archiving-sarge-aka-oldstable.html";>announced</a> several
changes for archive.debian.org, the most important being that Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 <q>Sarge</q> has been moved
from the regular mirrors to archive.debian.org.
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-mirrors-announce/2008/11/msg00000.html";>For the convenience of our mirror network</a>,
the deletion is being performed in several chunks, avoiding problems with mirrors refusing
to delete too many files at once. He later
<a href="http://blog.ganneff.de/blog/2008/11/02/archivedebianorg-old-bugs-and.html";>highlighted</a> that the
unofficial port of Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 <q>Sarge</q> to the AMD64 architecture has been moved there, too.</p>
<p>Other changes are the availability of binary packages for Debian GNU/Linux 1.2 <q>Rex</q>, 1.1 <q>Buzz</q> and 0.93R6. An
archive for packages from <a href="http://www.debian.org/volatile/";>volatile.debian.org</a>,
<a href="http://www.debian.org/security/";>security.debian.org</a> and <a href="http://www.backports.org";>www.backports.org</a>
is now also available at archive.debian.org.</p>
<p>During work on this, old mail archives from 1995, which had been lost, were found again as well as old bug
reports ranging from bug #350 to #1750. These will soon be added back to the appropriate archives.</p>
<p><strong>BTS link in need of new maintainer</strong></p>
<p>Pierre Habouzit <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2008/10/msg00006.html";>announced</a> that
he won't be able to maintain and run the BTS link service any more. This service is used to track activity
in upstream bug tracking systems and update the corresponding bug reports in
Debian's BTS in a semi-automated way. Currently this service needs to be run manually. Don Armstrong,
one of the maintainers of Debian's BTS, <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2008/10/msg00860.html";>highlighted</a>
the importance of the bts-link service, but won't be able to maintain it himself. Christoph Berg
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-qa/2008/10/msg00066.html";>suggested</a> maintainership under the mantle
of Debian's Quality Assurance group if someone would volunteer to act as the main responsible maintainer.</p>
