Re: knoppix64 8.2 on Sandy Bridge produces no X
The no3d and nocomposite cheatcodes are the problem, for some reason Knoppix 8.2 gives the symptoms you described when you use the no3d and/or nocomosite cheatcodes.
I have tried this on nearly every machine I own, with varying processors and video cards. Always the same results. I am not a fan of Compiz and I almost always use the no3d cheatcode.
If someone can suggest a fix for this, I would be grateful. I would like something that can be put into an update.tar.gz or a knoppix.sh so I can put it on my USB key and have it fixed on bootup. (if someone knows a fix, I can figure out the auto-update part, and post it for the community)
Does anybody know if 8.3 has this problem? I am in the U.S. and have not found a way to get a copy as of yet.

No other combination of typed in
cmdline parameters I've tried gets to a KDE or
LXDE session (including "" and
failsafe). (Gnome as a matter of principle I
don't touch)
Booting with 2 on cmdline works as
expected.
Using the exact same cmdline appendages
as shown above for 8.1 in attempting
with 8.2:
INIT: Id "x1"
respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes.
Some other combinations got as far as
painting the big Knoppix/Tux graphic, but
no more. Dmesg provides no recognizable
clues. Journalctl finds no entries.
Same two DVDs work in various newer and
older Intel gfx PCs here.
