Standby issues on 7.4.1

on either knoppix or knoppix64 desktop=kde, the 'function-standby' key combination appears to do nothing, but 4 of these appear in dmesg:
[ 2455.368080] systemd-logind[2328]: New session c7 of user knoppix.
[ 2455.396021] systemd-logind[2328]: Failed to abandon scope session-c7.scope
[ 2455.396032] systemd-logind[2328]: Failed to abandon session scope: No such interface 'org.freedesktop.systemd1.Scope' on object at path /org/freedesktop/systemd1/unit/session_2dc7_2escope
[ 2455.479127] systemd-logind[2328]: New session c8 of user knoppix.
[ 2455.505005] systemd-logind[2328]: Failed to abandon scope session-c8.scope
[ 2455.505015] systemd-logind[2328]: Failed to abandon session scope: No such interface 'org.freedesktop.systemd1.Scope' on object at path /org/freedesktop/systemd1/unit/session_2dc8_2escope

There is no menu option for sleep/standby, 'lock screen' also does nothing.
If I 'kill' kded4 , then 'function-standby' works (see Gateway below)

-----

on LXDE, 'function-standby' works but when you hit the power button to wake it up, it will wake for a moment and then go back to sleep. hitting power the 2nd time will wake it up for good.

Also on LXDE if you click 'LXDE_Menu > Logout > Suspend' It appears to do nothing, but a segfault appears in 'dmesg':
[24928.801250] lxsession-logou[10263]: segfault at 14 ip 4c86ce1c sp bfdd3ca0 error 4 in libgio-2.0.so.0.4000.0[4c79c000+1ab000]

----
(knoppix desktop=kde)
On my Gateway 450rog laptop (Pentium M, Radeon RV200), using knoppix desktop=kde ,  the process 'kded4' seems to runaway continuously spitting out the following in dmesg:
[ 2455.368080] systemd-logind[2328]: New session c7 of user knoppix.
[ 2455.396021] systemd-logind[2328]: Failed to abandon scope session-c7.scope
[ 2455.396032] systemd-logind[2328]: Failed to abandon session scope: No such interface 'org.freedesktop.systemd1.Scope' on object at path /org/freedesktop/systemd1/unit/session_2dc7_2escope
[ 2455.479127] systemd-logind[2328]: New session c8 of user knoppix.
[ 2455.505005] systemd-logind[2328]: Failed to abandon scope session-c8.scope
[ 2455.505015] systemd-logind[2328]: Failed to abandon session scope: No such interface 'org.freedesktop.systemd1.Scope' on object at path /org/freedesktop/systemd1/unit/session_2dc8_2escope

The process 'kded4' is running away and eating memory

'function-standby' key combo doesn't work

if I 'kill' kded4 it will go into standby with 'function-standby', if you hit the power button to wake it up, it will wake for a moment and then go back to sleep, pressing power again wakes it up for good, but only the mouse pointer appears.
