Re: find /boot/grub/stage1 hangs
Hi Felix,
Did you try grub4dos (instead of grub legacy or grub 2) ?
http://code.google.com/p/grub4dos-chenall/downloads/list
Klaus finally did add it to the latest Knoppix 7 versions.
It is much easier to install in the disk MBR (run bootlace from either
dos or linux):
"./bootlace.com --time-out=0 /dev/sda" (if sda is your boot
disk)
and very easy to configure since you can edit at boot time the
configuration.
It can boot multiple OS (including Windows, Linux and BSD) and the main
file
"grldr" (no more stage1 or stage2) can be located on the root
of multiple partitions
(including ext2/3/4, fat16/32, or ntfs). Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Gilles

I've run into this before without finding a solution that is not HD
invasive, and asked about it on the help-grub mailing list @

Backing up /boot content, reformatting sda3, then restoring didn't solve
the issue here.
Any ideas how to figure this out very welcome.
