I don't think that this technical question was misplaced.

Here is the development variant: Would it not be a better option for the
knoppix harddisk installer "0wn" to revert to using lilo for the
partition or master boot record, instead of grub? Grub-legacy does not
handle ntfs and uncleanly shutdowned journaling file systems well, while
grub2 has a different syntax and its configuration a also more difficult
to customize from a script.

Whenever I really can't answer a question for whatever reason, time
constraints or no solution comes to mind, I just won't. So, don't worry,
and just keep asking. ;-)
