Knoppix.
I actually had a home working running the CD in a qemu session. I
had a disk
image for this purpose. I had to create the user at every session,
of course.
Implementing a "nest" would be a nice idea.
Sounds like what you are looking for is the successor to the
Persistent Home Directory, the Persistent Disk Image (PDI), that
comes with Knoppix 4.0.2. Here are my notes on creating and using one:
