massive ACPI error messages

I've got an old HP Pavillion 6350 (AMD K6/333) when I attach a USB mouse
to it, I get massive numbers of ACPI error messages..

Jun 9 06:52:46 Knoppix kernel: ACPI-0700: *** Error: acpi_ev_gpe_dispatch: No handler or method for GPE[ 5], disabling event

I get 14 of these errors for EACH mouse event ( the number after GPE cycles from 0-6 and 8-E -- This leaves me thinking that it's a driver that counts in octal) The worst thing about it is that the counting GPE means that it's not reduced to: "the previous message was repeated 700 times) by each mouse event, this includes every pixel movement of the mouse triggers these messages.
using a non-USB mouse does not cause this problem.

I've tried booting with 'noacpi'. That doesn't help... Neither does loading every ACPI module I could find.
Does this tweak anything for anybody???
