Thank you, that was it. Although the warning said:
# lilo -r /mnt/hda7/
Fatal: On open /dev/hda7: Permission denied.
# 

the proper mount options solved the problem. Since just /dev/hda was
mentioned, I just forgot to think about the mount options of /dev/hda7.
