The Knoppix Kernel does not use ACPI, because it's unstable on most
older machines. You could try if "knoppix noapm" helps, though. This
also changes a powermanagement setting in the X-Server.

The screen=1024x600 options SHOULD work. If XFree4.3 has no appropriate
modeline available, it should autogenerate one. Have you tried this?

Thanks. The Beta2 is also read-optimized.

Two weak points yet:

- The first ksplash screen is delayed. I suspect this is because the
  X-Server is scanning all available fonts (which are a lot on the DVD
  edition).  No solution yet. It's just slow. :-(

- gnomemeeting does not seem to find the soundcard. I posted this
  before. Maybe someone has an idea why?
