The hd icon provides a setting for "device options" which will become
active when you do an unmount and then mount again.

The other options in "properties" are only for the desktop icon itself,
indeed.

You should use the "Change r/w status" context menu instead of the
properies. And dont't forget, NEVER attempt to mount NTFS r/w!
The Knoppix context menu will also simply refuse to do this.

NTFS is not recommended for remounting rw. You may lose all your data
if you try to do this manually. You have been warned.
