[debian-knoppix] flakey installation issue

Are there any issues with reiserfs? I would like to hear whether anyone
else has been noticing something like what's happened to me...

I installed knoppix 3.3 about a month ago on a new machine, using the
same old HDDs (80GB and 30GB), from what was a really recent"release" at
that time. I had found with Knoppix 3.2 that it wasn't possible to
create and install on an ext3 partition, so I used reiserfs, which
seemed to work fine on three machines using cluster knoppix, so I tried
it here on my home machine.

I have found, one at a time, that several packages have missing files.
Or else aren't recognized as being installed (undoubtedly because files
are missing). For example, today, a month after installing, I tried to
spell check a file, and ispell wasn't seen by emacs. I don't know
whether this is something recent, because I haven't been writing a lot
for a couple of weeks.

Thanks for any suggestions. Perhaps I ought to install using the new
debian installer? I use knoppix because it works really well out of the
box. I am not an experienced sysop, so it's much easier when someone
has configured a system to run X servers across the network. Beside,
knoppix has GREAT hardware recognition.
