[debian-knoppix] two NICs
Hi,
at first I want to thank Klaus and his community for this excellent work.
I want to realize a knoppix-box as a sniffer-pc with two
Network-Interface-Cards in the same subnet.
The first NIC should be the management-interface for remote working.
The second NIC will be connected to the sniffer-port of the router / switch
for capturing.
Now I wonder why the second NIC has to be a configured one, cause ethereal
always says the
following, when I want to use this 2nd NIC for capturing:
"
The capture session could not be initiated (bind: Das Netzwerk ist nicht
aktiv).
Please check to make sure you have sufficient permissions, and that you have
the proper interface or pipe specified.
"
Am I wrong with something? Is it possible to realize this with only one NIC?
(I don't think so...)
Has the NIC for capturing to be a configured one with a static IP, and if
so, do I have to enable
routing for that?
All hints are welcome!
Thanks in advance....
Best regards
Christian
