[debian-knoppix] kcontrol contains nothing to control after upgrade

Hi,
I knew I shouldn't have done it but it looked so promisingly ...
Further I know that this has nothing to do with Knoppix probably but perhaps
somebody can show me a direction where to look.
After the upgrade the control center (kcontrol) showed nothing anymore except
two folders for Network and Peripherals.
Does anybody know how to configure kcontrol or where a description is?
The same happened to kontact where the icon for kmail is missing.
I am using a CVS version of KDE in order to be able to work with kontact.
