I suppose I should have asked whether it's a company or a not for profit
"organisation" but, to tell the truth, I'd prefer if the said organisations
saw themselves as companies. Maybe they would be more disciplined.

I think it would have THE model Linux companies such as SuSE, Mandrake, Bed
Rat, etc. should have followed. But there's so much laisser-aller in this
kind of "company" that some people figure the model is flawed.

The state should at least make sure that they have a decent accounting system
and not only say "Who cares? They don't pay taxes", which is evidently the
best way to make money without paying taxes and bring the organization to a
quick end if members are not ALWAYS watching closely.

Since the members must contribute work for KDE to pursue its goals, I suppose
it's less likely to happen in this case.

The address Oilver gives is right. As a matter of fact, I found it a few
minutes after I wrote my message... and posted a new message to myself
instead of to the group.

More precisely, the statutes are here:

http://www.kde.org/areas/kde-ev/corporate/statutes-en.php

Everybody should read this, even if they're not interested in KDE, just to
have a idea of how a non for profit org is created. It's not very long.
