Did you do more than just run Knoppix? Did you install Knoppix to the hard
drive? Did you go into your BIOS settings to get the box to boot from the
CD? If you didn't touch the hard drive or the BIOS settings, there's nothing
Knoppix could have done and you're looking at a hardware problem that's
shown up by coincidence, I think.

Otherwise, you might want to go into your BIOS and check the order of the
devices it's set to boot from.
