There is something about accessing cameras that is not that easy and I don´t 
understand too much about it. As long as the cameras can be accessed directly 
as mass devices it should easy. Otherwise try to set up your camera as a 
"attached device" (or something a like, I have the german version running, 
you can also configure keyboard, mouse and printer there) in kcontrol.

It is depending on your fstab. If it looks like below, it should allow also 
any user the mounting. At least I can mount my USB drive as user.

I even don´t have the line you mention above in my fstab - that is mostly 
autogenerated by the knoppix script - and still all my USB device works.

Perhaps somebody can give us a short explanation what the /proc/bus/usb 
mounting is used for and when.
