[debian-knoppix] non-SMP kernel

Hi list,

Is it possible to replace the kernel on the boot floppy (created from
boot.img) with a non-SMP kernel?

I have successfully replaced the kernel with another, although an SMP
kernel. When I tried it with a non-SMP kernel, INIT just froze (after
writing out the version).
