Re: [debian-knoppix] Knoppix in India
I have not read the article but I am aware of few ongoing attempts/plans
to localise Knoppix to Indic languages.
Knoppix is going places :-)
In this context it is worth noting that the PANGO library (independent
of GNOME and GTK2+ but nevertheless well integrated into GNOME)
[pango.gnome.org]is very useful for standards in internationalising free
software.
(therefore)Only GNOME renders UNICODE and provides true futuristic
solution to global advocacy.
Anyone seen a well writen article here
<http://tldp.org/LDP/LG/current/sunil.html>
"I Built a Custom Debian CD from Knoppix
By Sunil Thomas Thonikuzhiyil "
It is true GNOPPIX and similar variants might provide a good solution
(with ample space for other software to make localisation possible) but
one of the beauties of GNU/Linux is the wide choice of desktops.
Even as more specialised variants of Knoppix come about it will be good
to see Knoppix itself *somehow* catering to all needs and serve as the
central advocacy material.
Best Wishes
