[debian-knoppix] strange file corruption after power cycle

I'm having a mysterious (to me at least) problem with knoppix running on a
harddrive.

On perhaps three occasions within the last three weeks, the machine has
had a power failure. When the power came back on and the machine tried to
reboot, the file system has been corrupted. I've had to force reboots
before,
followed by a successful fsck, but these never actually resulted in a
corrupted file system. It makes since that a power failure would result
occasionally in corruption, but does it make sense that it would happen
every time? Also, what's the general opinion out there about
ext3? Is this the kind of scenario where it would help?

thanks in advance,
dz
