Re: [debian-knoppix] Swapoff -a?

The default behaviour for the intended use as a production/working
Desktop system should be to use swap if it is available.

You can do that, I will add the noswap option in the last public release
before LinuxTag today.

Thank you very much!

I would rather install the system as it runs from CD to a harddisk. That
way you save time modifying configuration files and
installing/replacing additional packages.

I like your distribution. If I wanted to understand how this works, I may want to experiement and try creating my own CD from Red Hat Linux. In this case, would it be possible to start fresh by installing RH Linux on a development system?

Otherwise, how do I start with what you've done? Are you saying I can install from Knoppix CD to hard drive?

With apt-get or your own packaging system, or tar.gz, however you like
it, yes.

What packaging system do you use? Any suggestions on which technique you find easiest and most flexible?

What type of configuration or modifications are usually required for the applications?

I sent you the preparation script, didn't I? The major tasks are done by
/linuxrc and /etc/init.d/knoppix-autoconfig. Everything else should be
unmodified Debian, AFAIK.

Any reason for Debian?

I haven't seen the preparation script. I have seen a presentation you made about the process. I am still trying to understand what scripts are run and when. I expect some scripts will be executed for preparing the image and CD while other scripts are executed during the boot process.

If I can figure out how to customize my own CD, I would like to contribute to some documentation.

Regards,
Brian
