Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Extended Problem Description
----------------------------

The desktop build is a Ryzen 2200G with a Radeon RX 580 video card.

Using this kernel, X fails to start (it does however on
linux-image-4.19.0-4-amd64). Xorg.0.log reports:

(EE) open /dev/dri/card0: No such file or directory.

There is no /dev/dri directory upon inspection.

Printed in the console, and shown in dmesg output is the following:

[drm:amdgpu_pci_probe [amdgpu]] *ERROR* amdgpu requires firmware installed
See https://wiki.debian.org/firmware for information about missing firmware.

Looking in /lib/firmware/amdgpu I find Polaris(10|11|12) firmware, so
it appears the kernel cannot find it.

Performing lsinitramfs to compare the initrd of this and the previous
kernel shows two items that I will look into further but will be
unable to do so until Monday.

1. There are some additions to etc/ that I want to inspect

2. The previous kernel places the firmware in usr/lib/firmware/amdgpu
whereas the latest places it in usr/lib/firmware/4.19.0-5-amd64.

What led up to the situation
-----------------------------

I believe, but cannot confirm, that upgrading to
linux-image-4.19.0-5-amd64 from linux-image-4.19.0-4-amd64 caused the
issue. The reason I cannot confirm, is the machine has been on for
sometime and I just rebooted it today.

What did I do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)
-------------------------------------------------------------

Rebooting with the previous kernel allows normal operation and X to
start.
