Package: src:linux
Version: 3.2.41-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

There is a significant postgres performance regression (visible using pgbench), from linux 2.6.32-5 to linux 3.2.41-2

On linux 3.2.41-2 I get the following results (pgbench -t 8192 -U user -h localhost database)

tps = 110.726141 (including connections establishing)
tps = 110.730574 (excluding connections establishing)

while on linux 2.6.32-5 I get

tps = 1074.964892 (including connections establishing)
tps = 1075.199805 (excluding connections establishing)

I pinpointed the regression to this package by copying over

        /boot/*3.2*
        /lib/modules/*3.2*

from Debian 7 (onto the Debian 6 install) and re-running the benchmark, getting

tps = 110.726141 (including connections establishing)
tps = 110.730574 (excluding connections establishing)

After reverting back to linux 2.6.32-5, the transactions per second once again increased ten fold.

Sincerely,
Chris P

Hi

This bug was filed for a very old kernel or the bug is old itself
without resolution.

If you can reproduce it with

- the current version in unstable/testing
- the latest kernel from backports

please reopen the bug, see https://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control
for details.

Regards,
Salvatore
