Package: src:linux Version: 3.2.51-1 Severity: normal This is another thinkcentre m78. I've had repeated (but not reliably repeatable, unfortunately) crashes while running an amd64 kernel and i386 userland. (#720432 is a similar problem on a similar machine). despite the dump below, this report is actually about a crash that never made it to the logs. i'm attaching a screenshot of the backtrace from that crash, which happened a dozen seconds into boot. an attempted transcription of that backtrace is: Call Trace: dup_mm+0x2fa/0x4a4 copy_process+0x944/0x1071 do_fork+0xe1/0x21c sys32_rt_sigaction+0xea/x180 ia32_ptregs_common+0x25/0x4b Code: [...] RIP vma_prio_tree_add+0x7b/0xa0 The machine's RAM checks out fine via memtest86+. Any suggestions for what i can do to provide better debugging? Should i be trying kernels from backports, or any particular patches? --dkg -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 3.2.0-4-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Debian 4.6.3-14) ) #1 SMP Debian 3.2.51-1 ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.2.0-4-amd64 root=/dev/mapper/yoshi-root ro quiet ** Tainted: D (128) * Kernel has oopsed before. ** Kernel log: [ 6.874396] Too many HDMI devices [ 6.874399] Too many HDMI devices [ 6.874401] Too many HDMI devices [ 6.874404] Too many HDMI devices [ 6.874406] Too many HDMI devices [ 6.874514] hda-codec: out of range cmd 0:0:de5c:707:40 [ 6.874574] hda-codec: out of range cmd 0:0:de5c:708:dedc [ 6.874730] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffff880129c540d8 [ 6.874806] IP: [<ffffffffa035a9f1>] generic_hdmi_init+0xb1/0x10b [snd_hda_codec_hdmi] [ 6.874891] PGD 1606063 PUD c17fd067 PMD 12a257063 PTE 8000000129c54161 [ 6.874972] Oops: 0003 [#1] SMP [ 6.875014] CPU 0 [ 6.875035] Modules linked in: snd_hda_codec_hdmi powernow_k8 mperf crc32c_intel ghash_clmulni_intel aesni_intel snd_hda_intel(+) snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep snd_pcm processor snd_page_alloc aes_x86_64 aes_generic snd_seq snd_seq_device cryptd snd_timer snd tpm_tis tpm thermal_sys i2c_piix4 soundcore tpm_bios pcspkr evdev psmouse serio_raw ext3 mbcache jbd dm_mod microcode sr_mod cdrom sg sd_mod crc_t10dif usbhid hid usb_storage ohci_hcd ahci libahci r8169 mii radeon power_supply wmi i2c_algo_bit libata xhci_hcd ehci_hcd scsi_mod button usbcore ttm usb_common drm_kms_helper drm i2c_core [last unloaded: scsi_wait_scan] [ 6.875775] [ 6.875795] Pid: 622, comm: modprobe Not tainted 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 Debian 3.2.51-1 LENOVO 4865A14/Annapurna CRB [ 6.875901] RIP: 0010:[<ffffffffa035a9f1>] [<ffffffffa035a9f1>] generic_hdmi_init+0xb1/0x10b [snd_hda_codec_hdmi] [ 6.876009] RSP: 0000:ffff88012654fcb8 EFLAGS: 00010246 [ 6.876065] RAX: ffff880129c540e0 RBX: ffff880129c53db0 RCX: 000000001f3d541a [ 6.876133] RDX: 0000000000000000 RSI: 0000000000000000 RDI: ffff880129c540f8 [ 6.876201] RBP: ffff880129da2000 R08: 0000000000000080 R09: 00000000fffffffb [ 6.876269] R10: 0000000000000000 R11: 0000000000000000 R12: 0000000000000008 [ 6.876337] R13: 0000000000000000 R14: ffff880129c52000 R15: 0000000000000080 [ 6.876406] FS: 0000000000000000(0000) GS:ffff88012fc00000(0063) knlGS:00000000f7783b40 [ 6.876483] CS: 0010 DS: 002b ES: 002b CR0: 000000008005003b [ 6.876539] CR2: ffff880129c540d8 CR3: 000000012a3f2000 CR4: 00000000000406f0 [ 6.876607] DR0: 0000000000000000 DR1: 0000000000000000 DR2: 0000000000000000 [ 6.876644] DR3: 0000000000000000 DR6: 00000000ffff0ff0 DR7: 0000000000000400 [ 6.876644] Process modprobe (pid: 622, threadinfo ffff88012654e000, task ffff8801260fb650) [ 6.876644] Stack: [ 6.876644] 0000000000000003 ffff880129c53e00 ffffffffa035ffb0 ffff880129da2000 [ 6.876644] ffff880126590258 ffff8801260d2c00 0000000000000000 0000000000000000 [ 6.876644] ffff88012ad58090 ffffffffa0378e45 ffff880129da2000 ffffffffa0378e7e [ 6.876644] Call Trace: [ 6.876644] [<ffffffffa0378e45>] ? snd_hda_codec_build_controls+0x23/0x42 [snd_hda_codec] [ 6.876644] [<ffffffffa0378e7e>] ? snd_hda_build_controls+0x1a/0x6c [snd_hda_codec] [ 6.876644] [<ffffffffa0399a87>] ? azx_probe+0x86d/0x905 [snd_hda_intel] [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff8134a3c7>] ? _raw_spin_unlock_irqrestore+0xe/0xf [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff811c3b6f>] ? local_pci_probe+0x39/0x68 [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff811c4618>] ? pci_device_probe+0xcd/0xfa [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff8124e751>] ? driver_probe_device+0xa8/0x138 [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff8124e830>] ? __driver_attach+0x4f/0x6f [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff8124e7e1>] ? driver_probe_device+0x138/0x138 [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff8124d380>] ? bus_for_each_dev+0x4f/0x7a [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff8124e0ea>] ? bus_add_driver+0xa5/0x1f5 [ 6.876644] [<ffffffffa0316000>] ? 0xffffffffa0315fff [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff8124ec58>] ? driver_register+0x8d/0xf5 [ 6.876644] [<ffffffffa0316000>] ? 0xffffffffa0315fff [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff811c4e33>] ? __pci_register_driver+0x4d/0xb6 [ 6.876644] [<ffffffffa0316000>] ? 0xffffffffa0315fff [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff81002085>] ? do_one_initcall+0x75/0x12c [ 6.876644] [<ffffffffa0316000>] ? 0xffffffffa0315fff [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff810752ee>] ? sys_init_module+0x10c/0x25b [ 6.876644] [<ffffffff81351be3>] ? ia32_do_call+0x13/0x13 [ 6.876644] Code: 0f b7 c7 b9 08 07 00 00 31 d2 44 89 ee 48 89 ef e8 d2 d2 01 00 48 8d 83 30 03 00 00 48 8d bb 48 03 00 00 31 d2 31 f6 48 89 6b 48 <48> c7 83 28 03 00 00 00 01 02 00 48 89 83 30 03 00 00 48 89 83 [ 6.876644] RIP [<ffffffffa035a9f1>] generic_hdmi_init+0xb1/0x10b [snd_hda_codec_hdmi] [ 6.876644] RSP <ffff88012654fcb8> [ 6.876644] CR2: ffff880129c540d8 [ 6.876644] ---[ end trace 8a19947edb4a6cbe ]--- [ 7.982415] EXT3-fs (dm-0): using internal journal [ 8.180987] loop: module loaded [ 8.908654] Adding 499708k swap on /dev/mapper/yoshi-swap_1.
