Bug#843061: radeon/hawaii_k_smc.bin fails to load with 4.8 kernel

Package: firmware-amd-graphics
Version: 20160824-1
Severity: normal

Booting a 4.8 kernel results in the following messages (and non-working X.org),
while booting a 4.7 kernel works just fine:

  kernel: [ 38.874663] radeon 0000:06:00.0: firmware: direct-loading firmware radeon/hawaii_ce.bin
  kernel: [ 38.875522] radeon 0000:06:00.0: firmware: direct-loading firmware radeon/hawaii_mec.bin
  kernel: [ 38.876165] radeon 0000:06:00.0: firmware: direct-loading firmware radeon/hawaii_rlc.bin
  kernel: [ 38.877010] radeon 0000:06:00.0: firmware: direct-loading firmware radeon/hawaii_sdma.bin
  kernel: [ 38.877767] radeon 0000:06:00.0: firmware: direct-loading firmware radeon/hawaii_mc.bin
  kernel: [ 38.877786] radeon 0000:06:00.0: firmware: failed to load radeon/hawaii_k_smc.bin (-2)
kernel: [ 38.877787] radeon 0000:06:00.0: Direct firmware load for radeon/hawaii_k_smc.bin failed with error -2
  kernel: [ 38.883896] radeon 0000:06:00.0: firmware: direct-loading firmware radeon/HAWAII_smc.bin
kernel: [ 38.883900] ci_fw: mixing new and old firmware!
kernel: [ 38.884032] [drm:cik_init [radeon]] *ERROR* Failed to load firmware!

I suppose this either means a faulty module, or simply outdated
firmware?
