Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.38-3
Severity: normal

Every 10 seconds I get the messages at the end of my bug report in
/var/log/kern.log. My /var/log/kern.log is very big! Why is the kernel
telling me what I already know every 10 seconds?

I have a Benq Product Name FP241W manufactured February 2007 Revision
B4-125 and used to use the DVI input. The EDID data in the DVI input
suddenly failed and the my PC would not longer boot. I plugged my PC
into the HDMI input of the monitor and the machine boots but X does not
start at the correct resolution. It appears that the EDID data from HMDI
input does not propose "1920x1200". I created /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Section "Monitor"
	Identifier "HDMI Monitor"
	Modeline "1920x1200" 154.00 1920 1968 2000 2080 1200 1203 1209 1235 +hsync +vsync
	Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1200"
EndSection

Section "Device"
	Identifier "ATI"
	Option "Monitor-DVI-I-1" "HDMI Monitor"
EndSection

Now using the HMDI input works but when the screen saver kicks in I get
a blue screen rather than have the monitor go into standby mode. This
seems to be how the HDMI input of my screen works. So once X is running
I unplug my PC from the HDMI input and plug it into the DVI input. All
works well, the screen saver makes the screen go into standby mode,
except that the kernel tells me that the EDID data is not correct every
10 seconds. Is there a way to make it stop?

I have a "ASUS EN7300GT SILENT/HTD/256M" graphics card with a
"nVidia GeForce 7300GT" GPU and am using the
"NOUVEAU driver Date: Thu Mar 24 02:13:12 2011 +1000"

Version: 3.4.1-1~experimental.1+rm

Debian 6.0 Long Term Support is now ending, and the 'linux-2.6' source
package will no longer be updated. This bug is being closed on the
assumption that it does not affect the kernel versions in newer Debian
releases.

If you can still reproduce this bug in a newer release, please reopen
the bug report and reassign it to 'src:linux' and the affected version
of the package. You can find the package version for the running
kernel by running:

    uname -v

or the versions of all installed kernel packages by running:

    dpkg -l 'linux-image-[34]*' | grep ^.i

and looking at the third column.

I apologise that we weren't able to provide a specific resolution for
this bug.

Ben.
