Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-9~bpo50+1
Severity: normal

Burning DVD+RW with the OEM(?) notebook drive HL-DT-ST DVD+/-RW GSA-U20N
is very slow (100-300kB/s) with kernel 2.6.32. It seems to me like there
is some problem with the throughput of the device buffer, since it's
almost always empty and isn't filled fluently.
I checked the backports kernels 2.6.30 and 2.6.29 too, they are also affected.
Also 2.6.28 from grml 2009.05 has this problem.
DVD-R(W) and CD-R(W) are not affected. And with 2.6.26 the speed is
also normal for DVD+RW (>3MB/s). CentOS with kernel 2.6.18 works fine
too, so it seems to be a problem with recent kernel versions.

It's independent of the wodim/cdrecord choice. I tried both with
Lenny and 2.6.32. Both have this very poor DVD+RW writing speed while
they work fine with 2.6.26 and the very same disc. I also tried
different disc brands but always had the same result.

The notebook is from DELL (chipset: Intel PM55), but the same drive should
also be found in different recent Lenovo Thinkpads.

Hi,
your bug has been filed against the "linux-2.6" source package and was filed for
a kernel older than the recently released Debian 7.0 / Wheezy with a severity
less than important.

We don't have the ressources to reproduce the complete backlog of all older kernel
bugs, so we're closing this bug for now. If you can reproduce the bug with Debian Wheezy
or a more recent kernel from testing or unstable, please reopen the bug by sending
a mail to control@bugs.debian.org with the following three commands included in the
mail:

reopen BUGNUMBER
reassign BUGNUMBER src:linux
thanks

Cheers,
        Moritz
