Hello Ben,

No, I want bug reports that have useful information for working towards a solution.

Then don't close bugs without trying to solve them please.
I am not a maintainer and an expert, but i am learning and do what is possible.

So this interface has not been brought up. Neither IPv4 nor IPv6 will
work.

I have written that the server is in use.
Stable ethernet connection only over the built-in 100 network of the mainboard.
The 1000 card with R8169 is not in use at this moment.
I will connect it with an additional network cable to the switch and make a retest hopefully this evening.

As final solution i want to connect the internet router near the server to the internal 100 network and route it through the server to the 1000 card connected to the LAN. So i have a highspeed connection for the fileserver and only one network cable for the server and slower 100 internet router.

Just in this second i found an additional hint to solve the problem:
http://www.fene-blog.de/linux/kein-netzwerk-bei-debian-6-squeeze-und-realtek-r8168/
http://www.fene-blog.de/linux/debian-eth0-link-down-problem-mit-realtek-r8169-beheben/
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=85431 (english)

It's written in german and says the problem is that the driver for 8169 is used instead of 8168.
This seems not to make sense but apparently has solved the problem for Debian Squeeze ?
(It's not clear if the chip 8168 or 8169 was in use.)
I have a network card with the
02:07.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8169 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 10)

The driver for the 8168 is not in the testing distribution but seems to be in unstable.
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/main/r8168-dkms
I will try to compile it and test if it helps.

Regards
Karsten
