[...] Yes, you're right, the change I made doesn't make that much sense. The only thing we can do without firmware is KMS on chips older than R600. Switching to UMS is pointless since the driver is then only doing DRM, which definitely doesn't work without firmware. So the next upload should re-enable KMS for your cards.
